DUDE WITH A SNOOD TUDE - A young male turkey shows a jaunty snood attitude. A snood is a fleshy appendage that hangs down over the beak, present in both males and females. In males, the snood is more prominent and can grow up to 5 inches long, particularly during breeding season. The snood's size and coloration can change based on the turkey's mood and level of excitement.

HELP YOURSELF - An Eastern Gray Squirrel chows down on the true flowers at the center of Wolf's Eye Dogwood blooms. The "flower" of a dogwood tree is actually a cluster of small, inconspicuous true flowers surrounded by showy, petal-like structures called bracts. The bracts are modified leaves that attract pollinators to the tiny, true flowers. We plant ornamental and native plants in our forest yard... and the wildlife seems to like it all.
