SEEING RED - A female Ruby-throated Hummingbird shows interest in a red geranium...as hummers are known for their attraction to red.

RETURN OF THE WAXWINGS - A Cedar Waxwing on a high perch at the beaver pond. We almost always have Waxwings this time of year because of huge wild cherry trees in our yard - this year there are no cherries on the big trees - but small cherry trees along the edge of the beaver pond have ripe cherries and our Waxwings are staying there.

HUMMER FAVORITE - A female Ruby-throated Hummingbird hovers over blooming Bee Balm. Bee Balm is considered one of the best colorful flowers to grow for hummingbirds.

WELL, LIKE RABBITS - We got a look at bunnies validating the long-known stereotype of rabbits being very reproductively active. Our neighbors have been saying they are seeing LOTS of bunnies - and we have seen a couple of bunnies in our yard, too - but MISTER Eastern Cottontail Rabbit has come around now.

SHARPIE - A Sharp-shinned Hawk comes hunting in our yard. Sharp-shinned Hawks, called Sharpies, are regular visitors to backyard feeders - attracted there to prey on songbirds visiting the feeders. They are the smallest hawk in North America and prey on birds up to the size of a dove or quail.
