ANOTHER HUMMINGBIRD ON A FLOWER PHOTO? - YES -but they will be gone soon...so we enjoy them while we have them!

DOWNY WITH THAT - A male Downy Woodpecker at a black oil sunflower seed feeder. Woodpeckers are usually at suet feeders, but this Downy has been going for sunflower seeds as Fall weather approaches in New Hampshire.

PEACE - Cottongrass - a member of the sedge family - blooms on the edge of the beaver pond. White Cottongrass, unlike some white blooms that may evoke somber feelings, transcends cultural boundaries as a beacon of tranquility. In various traditions, its gentle sway and soft tufts are seen as emblems of peace and prosperity, much like the cattails. Aside from the symbolism, cottongrass has few uses. One source suggests that the young stem bases and roots of Slender Cotton-grass can be eaten raw or cooked. The cottony seeds hairs have been used to make candle wicks and for stuffing pillows. There are no known medicinal uses.

HPOTD? - Maybe I need to change it to "Hummingbird Photo of The Day"? ... but buzzing female Hummingbirds are the main attraction in the gardens right now. They will all be gone soon - so other birds will take the Picture of The Day role.
