PEACE - Cottongrass - a member of the sedge family - blooms on the edge of the beaver pond. White Cottongrass, unlike some white blooms that may evoke somber feelings, transcends cultural boundaries as a beacon of tranquility. In various traditions, its gentle sway and soft tufts are seen as emblems of peace and prosperity, much like the cattails. Aside from the symbolism, cottongrass has few uses. One source suggests that the young stem bases and roots of Slender Cotton-grass can be eaten raw or cooked. The cottony seeds hairs have been used to make candle wicks and for stuffing pillows. There are no known medicinal uses.
