HUMMER TIME - The Hummingbirds are busy around our house with full feeders and lots of flowers in bloom.

MOST ROMANTIC BIRD TITLE - A male Cardinal feeds his mate a seed. It is a well-known Cardinal behavior with the male signaling their fitness and ability to find enough food to share with their mate.  Because Cardinals mate for life and have this adorable mate-feeding behavior, it is easy to call them the most romantic bird species.

TRAIL MUSHROOM - Not many wildflowers along the trail to the beaver pond, but hot summer days and recent rains have the mushrooms popping up. I don't know much about wild mushrooms and don't eat them - and I especially don't eat the Fly Amanita mushroom that my field guide calls "deadly poisonous". They were historically and today, used as an insect trap and a psychoactive sprirtial tool, though it contains powerful (poisonous) toxins. No magic mushrooms for me.

WE HAVE A JUMPER - There are four male turkeys that are almost always hanging out around the bird feeders in our yard pecking for spilled seed. At least one of them has figured out the technique of jumping up to bump the feeder or to get enough height to peck into the feeder to get the seed.

MEADOWHAWK DRAGONFLY ON THE BEAVER POND - Dragonfly identification is difficult - as many are very similar. I think this is a Meadowhawk Dragonfly - either a Yellow-legged or a Ruby Meadowhawk.
