POTD 8/9/26
ON DEFENSE - A female Hummingbird flares her tail while while defending the space around a hummer feeder. Females are fiercely protective of feeding spots and will sit with flared (fanned) tails to warn others away from the food. In this case, it was a male Hummingbird buzzing the area she was warning off.

SNAKE ON THE POND - An unidentified snake leads with it's tongue as it swims across the pond.

IT GOT HOT - A great Blue Heron wades in shallow water...hunting fish, while also cooling off.

POWER OF FLOWERS - A female Ruby-throated Hummingbird is attracted to the red Geranium bloom. Hummers don't seem to prefer sugar water in feeders over flower nectar - as the 4-to-1 sugar water mix mimics real flower nectar and Hummingbirds use both sources and seem to go for the closest or richest food source.

BOMBER MODE - A Bald Eagle streaks across the beaver pond. It is getting more common to see an Eagle at the beaver pond.
