APPROPRIATE NAME - A male Ruby-throated Hummingbird shows it's namesake ruby throat feathers. Many bird species have iridescent feathers. The iridescent colors of the throat of the male Ruby-throated Hummingbird are among the most refined and spectacular colors in all of nature. The structure of the feather surface amplifies one color of light and the surfaces are angled so that they reflect that color in only one direction.

REALLY, A PRINCE? - A Pickerel Frog showed up on the patio...looking for someone to kiss him. Cute for a frog - maybe not a Prince. ;-) Fun fact about kissing a frog - AI Overview: Nothing magical happens when you kiss a frog in real life, meaning it will not turn into a Prince. Instead, you risk getting sick from harmful germs or hurting the fragile amphibian.

BALD EAGLE ON THE BEAVER POND - I have mixed feelings about Eagles on the beaver pond. They have been regulars on the beaver pond for the past several years - and while photographing big birds is exciting - I suspect the eagles in the premature disappearance of the Heron chicks (which are also cool to photograph).

NOSEY BEAR - We watch for the young bear that has been coming around - and noticed it sniffing at the empty feeder poles before any bird feeders had been put out.

ON A RAINY DAY - A male Ruby-throated Hummingbird sits out a light rain. Hummingbirds can fly with wet feathers and are actually water resistant and actually enjoy showering in light rain.
