PASSING THROUGH - A migrating Ovenbird perches just off our garden clearing. In the Fall, Ovenbirds migrate to mixed forests in Florida, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean to spend the winter. This one passing through on the annual fall bird migration that has already begun.

CORRECTION on the identification of the ducks in yesterdays POTD. Our friend Meade Cadot,  of the Harris Center for Conservation Eduction, noticed the ducks were probably juvenile Wood Ducks - maybe from a brood hatched on the beaver pond. Thanks Meade!

SURPRISE SIGHTING -  I surprised a flock of Blue-winged Teal ducks at the beaver pond and they surprised me with an explosive take-off. Blue-winged Teals migrate from their breeding grounds in Canada to wintering grounds in Mexico and South America. They are one of the first ducks to head south in the fall.
