EYES ON THE PRIZE - A Tom Turkey keeps an eye on the hen crossing in front of him. Tom Turkeys are in full mating mode.

I'M CALLING SPRING! - Now that we have seen a Robin in the yard - I'm calling it Spring. Robins don't show up in southern New Hampshire until the ground is thawed - and they can hunt worms and grubs in the grass. This Robin had frost-covered ground when it showed up yesterday.

HOUSEKEEPING - What appeared to be a pair of Herons (not two males fighting over a nest), work on rebuilding an existing nest on the beaver pond.

NOT A BAD SPOT - Now that the Herons are back on the beaver pond - I hang out there more often to keep track of the nests. The spot nearest to the nests is a pretty nice spot for just sitting.

REMODELING - Herons are back claiming nests on the beaver pond. One of the three nests from last year was destroyed by heavy winds this winter...and Herons are staking claims on both remaining nests now. Heron males are the first to arrive and there can be squabbles over securing an existing nest, since late arrivers have to build a nest from scratch.
