RAINY DAY HAIR - A Blackbird shakes it off in the rain from a high perch. After several days of beautiful Fall weather - the sun took the day off. ;-)

STILL LOW WATER - We got some rain in southern New Hampshire - but the water level in the beaver pond is still really low. This view, toward Mount New Ipswich, shows the shallow end. There is usually lots more water and beavers would be bringing branches back to the lodges now...not seeing that this year!

WE'RE DOWN WITH THAT - A male Downy Woodpecker at the suet feeder. Downy Woodpeckers look like smaller versions of the larger Hairy Woodpecker. Recent research supports the idea that the Downy Woodpecker benefits by fooling other birds and gets a higher position in the pecking order for being mistaken for the larger woodpecker.

MORE BEAVER MOON - It was cloudy Wednesday night for the last full moon of Fall - the Beaver Moon.
