COMING AT YA - I had just gotten a lens on this Heron when it launched off the perch directly at me. Back in my photojournalism days we had a saying about being in the right place - it was "f8 and be there" - which referred to a generic camera lens setting (f8) and just being on the scene.

FIRST WILDFLOWER - A Sessile Bellwort bloom is the first wildflower on the path to the beaver pond.

HERE FOR MAGNOLIA - A male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker works on a Magnolia tree. Sapsuckers especially like Magnolia trees with smooth bark (like this white Magnolia) that they drill rows of sap holes in and drink the sap and eat insects attracted to the sap holes. Other birds also take advantage of the holes the Sapsuckers drill.

TURTLE ROCK - A Painted Turtle made it to the top of the rock...just a little closer to the sun.
