PURPLE FINCHES BACK - We have drab, winter-dressed Goldfinches all year - but Purple Finches migrate and have only recently returned to southern New Hampshire. Purple Finches are not truly purple because their color is derived from dietary carotenoids, resulting in a raspberry-red or rosy-wine hue rather than a true purple pigment.
