BEE THERE FOR ME - A big Bee visits a Pachysandra bloom. The green ground cover plant is an early bloomer - which attracts the bees looking for pollen on the earliest blossoms..

FIRST FOREST WILDFLOWER - Not much else is green on the forest floor - so the delicate yellow Sessile Bellwort (aka Wild Oats) stands out on a sunny late-April day.

ANOTHER SPARROW ARRIVAL - WE have a variety of sparrows scratching in the yard every year. The White-throated Sparrow, with its distinctive yellow eyebrows, is back scratching under the bird feeders.

MERGANSER PAIR - A pair of Hooded Mergansers show the difference in their crest displays. The female (at left) shows her loose, tawny crest raised - while the male has his fan-shaped, white crest lowered. The Hooded Mergansers showed up later this year than usual.

COMING OUT - Leaves and blossom heads of Hobblebush Viburnum emerge along the brook from the beaver pond. It is called Hobblebush because its branches bend to the ground and take root.
