FEEDING THE BABIES - Female Downy Woodpecker feeds her fledgling at the finch sock. We have been seeing the Downy Woodpeckers liking what was in the finch sock - and now we are seeing them feed their young at the sock.

YOUNG CARDINAL - When it leaves the nest, a young Cardinal has a dark bill without any bright color. A few weeks later the dark color will have faded and the bill becomes bright orange-red like the adults.

BUNNY DAY - We spotted an Eastern Cottontail Rabbit in the garden this winter - so it was nice to see the bunny still around this summer.

IN THE POOL - Mourning Doves bathe in the bird bath as record high temperatures hit New Hampshire.

IT AIN'T EASY BEING BLUE - Male Indigo Bunting in full breeding color. Buntings are strongly sexually dimorphic - males and females look different - and studies show that it is linked to migration. Males arrive on the breeding ground first and establish a territory. The females come a few days later and select a mate. The most attractive males are more likely to be chosen.
