DUCKING OUT - A young Wood Duck, not quite old enough to fly, scoots across the water in escape on the beaver pond.

HERON CHICK UPDATE - The Great Blue Heron chicks in nests at the beaver pond are growing fast.

BUNNY MUNCHING - An Eastern Cottontail Rabbit munches grass in our yard. Cottontail Rabbits eat a variety of weeds, grass, sprouts, fruits and bark...which is perfect for our weedy yard.

OUR BIGGEST WOODPECKER - A female Pileated Woodpecker eyes the decaying bark of a pine tree stump. No other living North American woodpecker is this large - only the Ivory-billed Woodpecker (now presumed to be extinct) was larger.

LOVELY DOVEY- A Mourning Dove drinks at the bird bath. The Mourning Dove is one of the most widespread species in North America - found from British Columbia to Arizona to Maine. One contributor to their success is their ability to nest almost year-round, even in northern climates.
