OUT ON A LIMB - The last Heron chick in this nest to fledge got as far as the "launching limb" before climbing back into the nest. Most of the chicks have fledged, but eagles were spotted on the beaver pond yesterday.

THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER - When there is no good reason to lift your chin off the deck. Wikipedia: The dog days or dog days of summer are the hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius (known colloquially as the "Dog Star"), which Hellenistic astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck. They are now taken to be the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

TOW HEE HEE - A female Eastern Towhee pecks around in the yard. We had a pair of Towhees show up...we presume they are passing through either coming or going on migration.
