KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN JUNIOR - Momma Wood Duck may be telling duckling number one to be a little stealth as they hustled away from the bank when I approached on the beaver pond.

ANOTHER RED BIRD - We have a pair of nesting Cardinals that we see year-round - but we only get glimpses of the other red bird that comes around - the male Scarlet Tanager. A highly migratory species, the Tanager is actually related to the Cardinal.

FINALLY A MONARCH - We always watch for the first Monarch butterflies and have planted lots of milkweed to support them in our garden. We saw our first Monarch today in the meadow down the road. This male on a milkweed bloom.

EXOSKELETON - Lots of buzz this year about the Cicada explosion in the midwest...But the more common annual cicadas have come out of the ground in New Hampshire - leaving behind their dirty exoskeleton - in this case on the gate to our fenced garden.

FEE-BEE - An immature Eastern Phoebe looks a little ruffled as it preens. The Phoebe, with it's hoarse fee-bee voice, wags it's tail frequently as it hunts from elevated perches and catches bugs in mid-flight. We like anyone that catches bugs.
