LOVELY SUMMER DAY - Monadnock Mountain from Old Sharon Road on a lovely late-summer day.

BIG ENOUGH FOR TWO - A female Ruby-throated Hummingbird and a Bee work on the same Sedum bloom. Hummingbirds are bulking up for migration and the Bees are taking advantage of everything blooming.

HEY, A CARDINAL - Named for its bright red color, like the robes of cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church, the Northern Cardinal is one of the most recognizable birds in North America. In the 1950s they were found north only to southern Illinois and New Jersey; now they are a conspicuous visitor to bird feeders year-round as far north as southern Canada.

HAWK EYE - a Broad-winged Hawk perches just off the edge of the yard watching for something to catch. Field guide says their food is small mammals, small birds, reptiles and grasshoppers. Our yard has all of those.

CAN'T DO A THING WITH MY HAIR - A female Ruby-throated Hummingbird with head feathers askew. Lots of things can cause Hummingbird's feathers to get mussed, but primarily accidentally bumping into a branch or something else. I don't think this girl even knew her "do" was messed.
