ROMANTIC BIRDS - PART II - A male Cardinal feeds a seed to his mate. It is common to see males feeding their mates and is seen as a signal that they can provide for future offspring. Watching it happening just reinforces the idea of Cardinals being cooly romantic.

BEAVER POND BLOOMS - A Fragrant Water-Lily blooms on the beaver pond. Fragrant Water-Lilies, also called White Water Lily, cover large areas of the beaver pond in blooms and the Fragrant Water-Lily also comes in pink! ;-)

SWALLOWTAIL IS BACK - I've been posting nature photos for quite a few years - and a photo that looks almost exactly like this one of an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly comes up in memories or my POTD archive pretty often. Swallowtail Butterflies and Day Lilies just go together.

DINING TOGETHER - A Cardinal pair visits the feeder together. The Northern Cardinal may be the most romantic bird species. they mate for life, travel together, sing before nesting and during courtship, feed seed beak-to-beak.

BEAVER POND ELEGANCE - A Cedar Waxwing strikes a pose at the beaver pond. Waxwings get their name from the small red tips on the feathers of their inner wing, which reminded early naturalists of the red sealing wax used on important letters. The bird's red markings are not wax, of course, but keratin (the same substance as the rest of the feather) formed into a solid flat tip and decorated with red pigment.
