FRESH FINCH - An immature female Purple Finch waits her turn on the feeder. The Purple Finch was designated the state bird of New Hampshire in 1957. The New Hampshire red hen (a breed of domestic chicken) was also proposed, but was not chosen in favor of the purple finch.

IT GOT HOT - A Chickadee at the bird bath. It got hot in New Hampshire and the birds were looking for water.

PUFFED - A Tom Turkey in full mating strut puffs his feathers to look larger. We feel sorry for the guy who spends the entire day strutting.

CHICKS ON THE NEST - Great Blue Heron chicks are big enough to see above the sides of the nest. It appeared that we have chicks in three nests this year.

BRIGHT SPOT ON A RAINY DAY - A male Rose-breasted Grosbeak out in a heavy rain. The Grosbeak's large bill is designed for cracking large and hard seeds. They love sunflower seeds at the feeder and return from migration every year to raise fledglings they bring to the feeders.
