PATIO GARDEN STARTING TO BLOOM -  A Columbine Bloom. The flowers attract butterflies, bees, moths, and hummingbirds—but thankfully, not deer! This hardy plant is also quite resilient and drought-tolerant. Once started, columbine propagates for years and, although perennial, increases most rapidly by self-seeding. They have all but taken over our patio garden from self-seeding.

For those in the comments - if you haven't yet read The Light Eaters by Zoe Schlanger, I HIGHLY recommend it! Beautiful flowers, I just found some flowering in a roadside ditch near me (and not near another house). I'm hatching a plan to transplant them to my garden under the cover of darkness! (which is certainly not necessary, but makes the whole thing seem that much more exciting...)

nICE photo. Differentiation is an amazing process. A fertilized blob of cells under DNA instructions transforms itself into a beautiful thing. Beautiful to us as well as to bees

I am always amazed at the complexity of the shape of this flower, makes me wonder if there exists a energy template that the cells follow when developing. Same is true for orchids and pitcher plant flowers. Time to re-read "The Secret Life of Plants"
