CLAIMING A NEST - Male great Blue Herons typically arrive at nesting grounds first - to claim and defend nest sites. I saw this male chase another heron from the perch near an existing nest on the beaver pond. We watch for the herons to return, claim nests and raise young on the beaver pond.
