MAPLE SAP TIME - A White-breasted Nuthatch visits a tree limb scar to drink sap water. Warm days and cold nights get maple sap running and the birds know where to get sap - which provides energy, sugar and moisture.
From this point forward I will now call that bird a White-Breasted and Red-Butted Nuthatch! That's a cute little rusty bottomed bird, and what a neat catch, to get it drinking sap!
