FALL COLOR - Goldfinches molt twice a year to change their plumage from bright yellow and black breeding colors to drab, olive-brown winter attire. The fall molt produces dense winter feathers for insulation, while a spring molt brings back the flashy yellow for attracting mates. This male Goldfinch's fall molt is well underway.
