POTD 9/19/25

EAGLE ON THE BEAVER POND - We have been seeing Eagles on the beaver pond for a few years now - after many years never seeing one. With a life expectancy of 15-30 years - it is likely we are seeing the same Eagles year after year.

Correction: I was excited to find a rare plant - white gentian - for yesterdays POTD...but thanks to Shelby Perry (Wildlands Ecology Director at Northeast Wilderness Trust) I know the photo in yesterdays POTD was of White Turtle Head (Chelone Glabra) blooms. White Turtle Head was used in Native American medicine for its anti-parasitic, digestive and anti-inflammatory properties.

Nice shot. In 1960 I presented my research on DDT at MIT which demonstrated that insects (house flies in my case) become immune after 2 years of exposure. DDT was off the market in 1972 and the eagles have rebounded.
