FIRST SPRING BLOOM - A tiny Snowdrop blooms in a garden on our roof (Earth-sheltered house) - and is always the first flower to bloom in Spring, when the snow is starting to recede. Snowdrops were for a time in the 19th and early 20th centuries associated with a dark superstition. As people of the time would usually plant snowdrops around cemeteries - it made people believe that if you found a snowdrop in your home, it would mean impending doom. We didn't know this about snowdrops - so we love seeing the little blooms pop out after the snow starts to melt.
