STYLISH DO - A female Cardinal sports a particularly red crest. The Cardinal's pointed crest is strictly feathers. The extra long feathers at the top of the head can be raised and lowered at will. Birds with crest use them to communicate, generally raising them when they are excited or aggressive.  I'm saying the plentiful sunflower seeds got this girl excited.

I had a nice collection of cardinals but today a bear was sucking down all the black oil seed during the day
