SUSPECT - in the disappearance of Heron chicks. I hope it is a coincidence that the Bald Eagle was spotted at the beaver pond again and two young Heron chicks are no longer in their nest. They looked too young to fledge a few days ago - but, I hope they flew off the nest. Our naturalist friend told us about a decline in coastal Great Blue Heron rookeries--the cause thought to be the burgeoning eagle population. We have only seen a few eagles on the beaver pond in the 25+ years we have been here - and we are seeing them regularly lately.
