OR KESTREL - We were surprised to see several American Kestrels hunting together from a wire over a hay field. We counted seven Kestrels across a large field. The Kestrel is the smallest of the falcons and is a dainty eater of grasshoppers and mice. Numbers of American Kestrels have been declining for decades - so it was good to see so many at once!

I've been hoping to see a Kestrel for years... I think they are so beautiful! But not one has been cited from my deck -- I wonder if they are a more northern bird...
