BUG CONTROL - Female Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker eats ants attracted to the sap in the holes the Sapsuckers drilled in a White Birch tree. Sapsuckers drill the holes for the sap, hence their name, but also eat the bugs the sap attracts. We've seen Chickadees, Hummingbirds, wasps and the ants this Sapsucker is eating all feeding on the drill holes.

I've heard sapsucker holes are an important early season food source for hummingbirds as well! Great shot (as always!) Paul!
