SPECIAL DOGWOOD - We have a mature Wolf Eyes Dogwood, Cornus kousa, tree in our New Hampshire forest yard. It took years for it to get mature enough to bloom - but we love the special dogwood blossoms it makes every year now.

NEWT TO ME -  A Red Eft - the immature land form of the Eastern Newt. Newts have three forms: a larval aquatic form, followed by an immature land form called an "eft", and finally an aquatic adult form. This species in all forms have 10-12 red spots ringed in black and many small black dots. We see red efts on the paths after it has rained.

TWO GIRLS FOR EVERY BOY - The Hummingbird rodeo on our back patio has begun. We have four females jockeying for position between five feeders. A single male shows up occasionally at his favorite feeder before heading back to the relative peace of the front patio feeders.

BACK IN THE YARD -  A male Baltimore Oriole heads for the jelly feeder in the yard. Orioles return every Spring and visit the jelly feeder regularly for a while - then are not around for a few weeks while they tend to their young. They switch from their jelly diet to bugs when they are feeding their hatchlings.
