DID YOU WONDER? - Below zero temperatures had the turkeys in our yard standing on one leg. I'd "Googled" it before and knew that by tucking one leg they were reducing their exposed skin by half. A vascular system adaptation called "rete miabile" helps, too. The arteries and veins in their legs are arranged close together, which allows blood to be warmed and cooled quickly as it passes through. Warming the blood going to the heart and cooling the blood going to the feet - which reduces the amount of heat loss.

WINTER WONDERLAND - Three inches of new snow coated everything turning the yard into a beautiful winter visual.

SNOWED - Guys delivering our new hot tub had to clear deep snow to get the tub to the back patio. Thankfully, it quit snowing later. ;-)

PERCHY - A turkey hen takes advantage of a low roost to get out of deep snow with the flakes still flying.
