GETTING INTO THE SEASON during Family Weekend at my favorite school (HampshireCountrySchool.org) with pumpkin carving, trick-or-treat and family visits to the small boarding school for boys.

STATE BIRD - Male Purple Finch heads for the feeder. The Purple Finch became New Hampshire's state bird by vote of the 1957 legislature. The Purple Finch was sponsored by a Dartmouth College Forester and beat out the sturdy New Hampshire Hen as the official state bird.

FALL ROBIN? - Normally a sign of Spring, but this Robin in the yard yesterday makes us think of Spring - even as we see Fall falling and winter on the way!

GETTING YOUR DUCKS IN A ROW - In this case Geese...swimming in a row on a Jaffrey, NH pond.

HOT AND DRY - The water level in the beaver pond is quite low - as our Fall has turned to Indian Summer. Unseasonably warm temperatures with no rain and the fall foliage is fading rapidly.
