BEE FRIENDLY - A Honey Bee approaches a dew-laden Fennel flower head. The pattern in Fennel flower heads is generated by the mathematic sequence - the Fibonacci Sequence - which is also seen in the spiraling patterns of seeds in a sunflower, the scales of a pinecone, the unfurling of a growing fern and the chambers of a nautilus shell.

BIG BITE - Young, male Red-bellied Woodpecker with a big bite of suet heads up the tree to stash it. He's just growing into what will be a full red cap.

PLANT IT AND THEY WILL COME - We plant lovely, orange-blooming Asclepias to attract Monarch Butterflies and Monarch caterpillars - so we are happy to see the Monarch caterpillars on the Butterfly Weed blooms.

FINALLY A MONARCH CATERPILLAR - A couple of weeks after we saw a female Monarch on the Asclepias plants in the pollinator garden - we spotted a tiny Monarch caterpillar yesterday. It seems to be munching happily - so we'll watch for it to grow.
